TRADITIONAL ANIMATION COURSE CONTENT
Total Duration: 700 hours.
Timetable: Mon- Friday (5 hours/day) 16:00- 21:00
Place: CIATEC- Technical Institute of Canary Islands (Tegueste)

Animation (315 hours - theory/practical)
Subject about the basic mechanisms to start animating and the production techniques of traditional animation on paper.
Life Drawing (116 hours - theory/practical)
Practical classes with human models for strengthen the fundamental techniques of the academic drawing and the study of the movement.
Layout (78 hours – theory/practical)
Planning systems for scene animation including camera movements and developing instructions. Group activity.
Post-production (77 hours – theory/practical)
Introduction to some digital composition and animation editing processes for the creation of pupil’s demo reel, which includes the best works through his/her learning on the course. Includes concepts of ToonBoom (digital ink and paint) and Premiere Pro (off-line editing).
In-Betweening (62 hours – theory/practical)
Work of the animator’s assistant. Practical study and analysis of the sequenced image and clean up of the drawings for the chain production.
Storyboard (52 hours – theory/practical)
Study and improvement of the most used planning system in animation, attending specifically to its narrative possibilities, versatility and proper nomenclature when it is adapted to animation.

  Each pupil will be provided with all necessary graphic material, as well as an animation table he/she will use along the course and a shared computer where he/she will visualize the line tests and will put into practice his/her exercises.   The course will provide a camera connected to a computer to test the pupil’s work, which film continually their animations. With this system the pupils will be able to check their animation exercises from the computer connected into the network and to their drawing tables. Schools all over the World test this facility and it is the most comfortable system to maximize the learning time.


GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
  1. Creating a reserve of animators initiated enough in the labour and in the traditional animation techniques as to begin to explore a new field of production and artistic communication in the audiovisual industry.
  2. To motivate the audiovisual production in the Canary Islands, with the clear social compromise of the business renewal and to promote young professionals future.
  3. Search and attraction of creator talents, making special emphasize in the professionals recycling with the objective of keeping a high grade of self-demand in connection to the European market.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
  1. Initial formation of the pupil in the professional work systems of the animation industry for TV and cinema.
  2. Step by step and through practical exercises supported upon theoretical learning, to develop some animated pieces that will be tested by the instructors.
  3. To motivate to the employment creation in the audiovisual field of the cartoons production and to make this professional opportunity worth for pupils bring up in the islands.
